Pinhead oatmeal (also known as coarse or steel cut oats) takes between 10 to 15 minutes to cook depending on what texture of porridge you like. If you prefer a smoother oatmeal porridge you can soak your coarse oatmeal overnight and cook it for around 8 minutes in the morning. Medium and fine oatmeal requires less cooking time as they are finer and absorb milk or water quicker.
