What is oatmeal?

Oatmeal is the whole grain of oat either chopped or ground rather than rolled. Mornflake mill many versions of oatmeal but the most popular grades are fine, medium and coarse. All Mornflake Oatmeals are available to buy online.

 

How to cook oatmeal?

Pinhead oatmeal (also known as coarse or steel cut oats) takes between 10 to 15 minutes to cook depending on what texture of porridge you like. If you prefer a smoother oatmeal porridge you can soak your coarse oatmeal overnight and cook it for around 8 minutes in the morning.  Medium and fine oatmeal requires less cooking time as they are finer and absorb milk or water quicker.

 

What is the difference between oats and oatmeal?

They are the same just in a different format. Oatmeal is usually the whole oat chopped or ground to make coarse, medium or fine oatmeal. They can be cooked the same as porridge oats but some grades of oatmeal (for example, coarse) take longer because of their thicker texture. Therefore, they need more time to absorb the liquid they are cooked in.
